What is a Hearing Aid Trial?

A service we provide here at Walker Hearing Clinics whereby you
are given hearing aids for 30 days to see how much you love them. This “try
before you buy” trial is a great way for you to decide whether or not a hearing
aid is for them. The hearing aid you receive during your trial is a specific
“trial hearing aid”. We do this for insurance purposes, which will be explained
during your hearing test.
Your hearing test will be held in a purpose built,
soundproof room that meets the required standards for the minimum sound levels
necessary for an accurate hearing test. Performing the test in a soundproof
environment is crucial to ensure precise and reliable results & also test your
chances of success with a hearing aid. We call this, speech testing.
Cost of the Trial?
The total cost of the trial is €250. This price will be deducted from your final balance once the hearing aids are returned.
Patient History Review
Your test will begin with a patient history review where our Audiologist will run through your hearing related medical history to understand if there was anything in your past that may be affecting your hearing now. An example of this is ototoxic medication during some cancer treatments.
Diagnostic Hearing Test
Next you will attend a diagnostic hearing test. From this, we will determine the severity of your hearing loss and together with your Audiologist you will select a pair of hearing aids for your trial.
The Fitting
We will custom programme your chosen hearing aids and physically fit them to your ears. We will then show you exactly how to use them, clean them, etc.
The 1st Checkup
After one week of wearing your trial hearing aids, you return to the clinic for your first checkup. During this appointment we will make any necessary changes to your hearing aids, adjust the volume, show you how to change the wax guards, maintain the product and answer any questions you may have. We also have the facility to do this online for most patients if you are busy with work, children or unable to travel.
The 2nd Checkup
The 2nd checkup will usually take place after the second week of your hearing aid trial. If necessary, we can see you sooner but two weeks is generally enough time. This allows you enough time to experience your usual everyday life with hearing aids, for example socialising & attending any events.
Making a Decision
Following the 2nd checkup, you have a further week to make a decision and by the end of the 30 days you return your trial hearing aids and everything you received with them, such as the charger, accessories, travel cases etc. You will then confirm whether you would like to go ahead and order your actual hearing aids. Once this is decided, we order the hearing aids you pay the remaining balance.
