Real journeys. From people just like you.
Almost every patient who walks through our door has put it off for longer than they'd like to admit. They thought it wasn't bad enough yet, or they weren't ready, or they were a bit nervous about what we'd find. Then they came in, and most of them wish they had done it sooner. These are their stories, in their own words.

"The hearing aids have been absolutely fantastic for my life."
I realised something was up with my ears and had some concerns before contacting Walker Hearing Clinic. The hearing aids have been absolutely fantastic for my life, and the Audiologist was so helpful. I would say to anyone concerned about their hearing to go to Walker Hearing Clinic in Fermoy.

"If you think you need to get your hearing checked, it’s too late...the sooner the better!"
I’ve had hearing difficulties all my life and always adapted, but it was only when I was properly fitted with hearing aids that I realised how compromised my hearing was. Before contacting Walker Hearing Clinic, I had a hang up about hearing aids, thinking they were just for old people and worrying what others would think. How wrong was I on both! The clinic was professional, caring, and understanding, and all the staff make you feel like part of a family.
Now, I can’t go a day without wearing my hearing aids. They are not a cure, but they have made a huge difference to my daily life. If you think you need to get your hearing checked, it’s already overdue—you would have benefited from professional care far sooner. The sooner you act, the better.

"Do it!"
I first realized something was up with my hearing when I couldn’t participate in conversations with my children in a group setting and kept missing the joke. I was afraid I’d find the aids uncomfortable because I had never been able to tolerate earbuds. My first impressions of Walker Hearing Clinic were that they are welcoming, professional, and friendly. Meeting Sarah puts me completely at ease, she is most helpful and professional. Since getting hearing aids, my life has improved immeasurably. If you are concerned about your hearing, do it.

"Just go for the initial consultation, have a test done, see if there is any issue and then have an informed and professional conversation with the Walker Clinic staff."
About seven years ago, I noticed a fullness in my ears. As part of the follow-up, I learned I had a loss of about 40 percent in one ear, which came as a shock. I wasn’t sure what to expect and was mainly concerned that the loss would escalate. My first impression of Walker Hearing Clinic was the friendliness of the staff, followed by their professionalism. I currently wear just one hearing aid, and it has made a huge difference in many ways, all for the better. The volume on the remote control doesn’t have to be turned up so much now.
My favourite thing about working with the clinic is how the staff put me at ease. They are efficient, professional, extremely knowledgeable, and I feel “minded” when I go for appointments. To anyone concerned about their hearing, I would say just go for the initial consultation, have a test done, see if there is any issue, and then have an informed and professional conversation with the clinic staff. There is no pressure to purchase if you are not ready. It is a very big decision to agree to wear a hearing aid.

"A hearing assessment can provide valuable information and, if hearing aids are recommended, they can have a positive impact on your ability to communicate, remain socially engaged, and enjoy everyday life."
My hearing problem developed gradually over many years of military service, making conversations increasingly difficult, especially in busy environments with background noise. I started to notice a persistent ringing in my ears and found myself mishearing words or needing people to repeat themselves. It was worrying and frustrating to realise the problem wasn’t going away and might be permanent, particularly because I was concerned about losing my ability to communicate effectively with my family, friends, and colleagues. Before contacting Walker Hearing Clinic, I feared my hearing had deteriorated more than I realised and might not be improved, and I was also apprehensive about needing hearing aids and how they would impact my daily life.
My first impression of the clinic was very positive. The staff were friendly, professional, and welcoming. They listened to my concerns, provided a thorough hearing assessment, and explained everything clearly with genuine interest in helping me find the best solution. Since wearing hearing aids, my daily life has improved significantly. I can hear conversations clearly, have regained confidence in social situations, and my awareness of everyday sounds has increased, giving me greater safety and independence. While I still have some challenges, the difference to my quality of life has been noticeable. The personal attention and aftercare from the clinic were outstanding. My advice to anyone concerned about their hearing is not to put it off—seek professional advice and don’t struggle on in silence, as taking that first step is well worth it.

"I have recommended you to quite a few people"
I first noticed it was hard to hear at times in groups. I saw the Walker Hearing Clinic advertisement while having a cup of coffee in the restaurant in the private Consultants Clinic and decided to call for a hearing test. The girls were so friendly and informative, but I couldn’t have a hearing test that day as they were booked. I thought a hearing test would take about 10 minutes—how wrong I was. My favourite things about the clinic are their friendliness, efficiency, and customer service. I have recommended them to quite a few people.
